First topic message reminder :

In this lesson, we'll be looking at harmonic price patterns. These bad boys may be a little harder to grasp but once you spot these setups, it can lead to some very nice profits!

The whole idea of these patterns is that they help people spot possible retracements of recent trends. In fact, we'll make use of other tools we've already covered - the Fibonacci retracement and extensions!

Combining these wonderful tools to spot these harmonic patterns, we'll be able to distinguish possible areas for a continuation of the overall trend.

In this lesson, we're going to discuss the following Harmonic Price Patterns:
ABCD Pattern
Three-Drive Pattern
Gartley Pattern
Crab Pattern
Bat Pattern
Butterfly Pattern
Phew! That's quite a lot to cover!

But don't you worry... Once you get the hang of things, it'll be as easy as 1-2-3! We'll start off with the more basic ABCD and three-drive patterns before moving on to Gartley and the animals.

After learning about them, we'll take a look at the tools you need in order to trade these patterns successfully.

For all these harmonic patterns, the point is to wait for the entire pattern to complete before taking any short or long trades. You'll see what we're talking about later on so let's get started!

Hi stef,
comb x is one which i am holding and this one for longterm and currently in the green zone.

PLC i disposed some weeks ago, recent results are not that impressive, but may be i will reconsider buying some in the future......
CWM was one i was eyeing some months ago, but havent had the time to put it on a chart....so when time permits i will come up with the chart pattern.

The consumables will be a longterm investment with percapita income in srilanka expected to grow and strong demand for this segment is of my view.

Its immediate concern to break 5100 Res. meaning short term and to next level would be the crossover to 100 MA around 5200 as per current condition.[img][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][/img]

for bearish to continue it would mean to slide further to 4500 levels which give a bulls to take another go at 5000.

So its all a waiting game until market bulls finds its rhythm, and march upwards. let the market decide its direction.

if the retail participation is active very sure market bullishness will prevail, if the govt takes a cautious approach not to hurt sentiments and to send the wrong signal, by removing heads of SEC.

@traderathome: I know this chart is important because it provides possible long term targets. But some of us are 'technically challenged'... We would appreciate a brief commentary highlighting the key features of your chart and explaining how each of those targets has been derived. Thanks!
I am very glad you asked that question. In any HPP (Harmonic Price Pattern) the peaks and low points act as Res or Supports.
the ASI chart depicted is now called as a BULLISH SHARK PATTERN, the last leg down in this case colored in BLUE and RED can extend below 1.618~2.24 FIB Levels.
The Bullish Shark Pattern can turnout to be a Bearish 5-0Pattern after moving up50% from last leg down. This is known as the correction leg. That is why i indicated 6250 to be precise will be the make or break for the BULLS although for me its the 50% retracement level. The shaded area indicates the entering of to the neutral zone (38.2%) which tested twice and failed. If this RES is broken, the momentum will carry up towards the first leg up which acted as a peak point and got corrected. which is confluencing around 7250 level. If left enough steam to break this 7250 we will surely see 7800 testing within 15-18months from now.

Hope this clears my target levels, please do let me know i will try and put some guide points to denote the peaks and the lows on the pattern for the noobs tryng to understand.

Sorry if i confused you more pale

it was in August 2010 ASI broke 5500points and by Oct same year it gained 1700points, i am reasonably assuming 25% min from 5500 this year if it reaches to gain.(1700*25%) this being very conservative expectation. that would mean 6000 points min, if things proceed smoothly from present condition.

Can some one confirm/correct me to my below statements:
we can reasonably expect the eoy earnings in corporates would be better than expected.

Then 6200 would be achievable ?

All are speculative, at this moment of time, but sentiments seems good thus far....knowing that the fundamentally strong shares are gaining...

Here is my analysis for ASPI Very Happy

Please correct me, my estimation would be if break out triggers in the coming days @5100 then i am expecting min +200 points, which is around 5300 easily from 5100 level.

from the initial B/O we should see ASPI reaching on pull back 5100ish before moving further up.

As highlighted some months ago, and i wish to restate the H&S reversal took 1400 points to the low which met its target around 4900 mark, before taking the shape of a rounding bottom. The rounding bottom is the most likely pattern it has taken, for the trend reversal.

[img][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][/img]

And finally we should witness increase in volumes during the B/O and thereafter on its way up. Very Happy

Strictly sticking to the analysis the break-out is yet to trigger on the rounding bottom which should happen by this week, but no time frame is required for confirmation. It could happen this week or next week it should not be an issue. All we need is the B/O to happen @5100.

cheers

According to this theory every thing Will depend on appointment of chairman
If you consider economic factors Market prices should go up.

You are absolutely correct as TK highlighted we are decades behind compared to well developed markets in other countries when it comes to regulations. Those who flout with rules pay hefty fines and go to jail , but here its of a less known factor.

Just a clarification...upon the breakout..we should see ASPI climbing few points up and the 5100 level will be our support level. 2 things could happen.... Either ASPI can possibly climb and reach new highs 5300+ min sparking a rally towards magical 5500 imho. some sellers can take profit off table which can not be ruled out so it could test 5100 to act as support.

The price action of todays daily candle will give us a clue on ASPI. so lets wait till the End of Market Day.

its 5096 on ASPI bounce

All Explanations on the Chart..

@Hapu
The Tripple Bottom reversal, followed with the Rounding bottom reversal as name implies these take place /detaected during trend reversals (CSE - Bearish to Bullish) 1st Target met 100Rs for the Tripple Bottom, Next Rounding Bottom Target 110Rs, since both are revesal patterns one can presume a chances for upward movement is highly likely with 2nd TARGET around 120-130 in mind.

Hope the small print is now clear here. Cool

Look at Rs 90/- now acting as the support which was previously the Resisitance line, prior to B/O in the same price level.

Feel Free to ask /comment.

Presently I am Holding HNB X @91Rs.

Good Luck

As most of you know by now, that i am muslim...but i cant disagree with what professor K Davids says in the following link.

I have the highest respect for Venerable M Sobitha Thero....

Perhaps most Sinhalese brothers may disagree, most of our eastern and northern muslim and tamil brothers will play the communal card as they usually good at it this time as well, thanks to Muslim Congress & TNA so that fear psychosis is instilled by the ruling party.

If UNP and JVP can agree principally on a common candidature, I am sure some of the Governing Party Minister will give their support covertly.

He will be the right person to abolish the EP and setting up of 18th amendment so that justice, police and election bodies will be independent from the state.

You will have a prime minister to answer to the parliament.

I will cast my vote for the Thero... Very Happy

There is so much the Chief Monk can do to better this country.

i feel it should not set a bad precedent, but there is an american saying...

you got to do what you got to do ......

The country is being ruined by corrupt politicos...where the rule of law...
Only the Thero can bring this country back to its root.

I have read many interviews of the Thero, and i have not come a crossed any controversial statements by the Thero whom i would say is a moderate in his speaches and all he has been saying is about unity and coexistence......

Much shorter term on symetrical continuation pattern would give us min 115/-

So i left both charts for comments and corrections from members.. Very Happy

Although time factor would invalidate for flag and penant, a symetrical triangle can not be ruled out. so i placed both. Basketball

The uptrend is in tact to trade above 675. with a possibility to revist 650 (shaded area in Grey) if at all in coming weeks.Despite lackluster performance in CSE, the counter has appreciated during market downfall.Could this be a reason that investors tend to hold on for fundamentally strong supportive shares during turbulent periods at CSE.
The testing of 720Rs is expected once again, it did try 3 previous occasions and failed.
The market needs re-assurance if this to re-test high levels.
My immediate target would be 800Rs and to take from there onwards.
We are seeing some consolidation before the 800Rs is breached.
To the down side extreme would be 620~500 (shaded in yellow) which will confluence on the long term trend line, but highly unlikely given the recent financial results.

The Cup formation began from Mid of May and completed end of July the little consolidation the final leg of forming its Handle is about to complete. say usually this week or the next, but there is nor time limitation on final phase of the handle.

The target is measured with the difference of high point of teh cup and the lower points, we should be able to draw our take profit target. Smile

Very Happy

For the sake of Buddhism,Buddhists and Buddhists monks I think this should never happen. We all have witnessed the humiliation created by Hela Urumaya Saga.If this happens this will be the worst case scenario.Even now see how this so called Professor has adresses a buddhist monk it is just Sobitha.

Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal said investors were not interested as to who was the Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman when they invest in the stock market.

There is an influx of Rs.29 billion in foreign exchange in the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) from foreign investors, he said. Sale of the shares is one of the several functions of the stock market. The shares available in our stock market are reliable and investors are aware of this. That is why they are investing in a large scale. They are not concerned about the individuals holding office in the SEC.

Mr. Cabraal said some took minor issues seriously because shortcomings could be corrected if we looked at these issues with an open mind.
